For some voiceover recording, studios like to connect up so the producers in one studio can directly hear and direct the voiceover artist in another studio.
There are a few different ways for a recording studio to connect whilst doing voiceover recordings including, the industry standard for many years, ISDN. We have used ISDN connections for over 20 years. In short, ISDN creates a one to one connection between two ISDN boxes and uses various codecs to encode and then decode the audio. This has served us well over the years.
Now however, we are making the decision to recommend and prefer the new technology of ipDTL and Source Connect.
Source Connect and ipDTL have been around for a few years but have had a little trouble with connectivity and reliability.
Thanks to updates in internet bandwidth, both ipDTL and Source Connect are fast becoming the number one option to link up with other studios whilst conducting recording sessions with artists.
