We were recently asked to present at the 2018 Christian Heritage Conference which was held in Retford. We always meet interesting people at a conference or event. As an audio-video production company we always like to interview people so we can help share their story with an online audience via our Out&About podcast series.
The Conference was organised by the Pilgrims & Prophets team and its theme was ‘Engaging the Community’. We were asked to present our experiences of working with a number of community groups producing the ‘The Meon Valley – a journey of discovery’ DVD.
Retford and the nearby surrounding area has an amazing Christian heritage. Within a few miles the origins of many nonconformist churches can be traced such as the Separatists, Baptists, Methodists, Quakers and others. This means it is a very important place in the story of the Mayflower.
At lunchtime we were given a short tour of Retford and went to the Mayflower Museum. The Museum is not large but has a lot of information and a number of interesting displays including a recreation of clothes the Pilgrims would have worn everyday. These clothes are in stark contrast to usual pictures of Pilgrims, which shown them dressed in black.
After the event was over we spoke to Adrian Gray, a member of the Pilgrims and Prophets team, about the event and also his recent book ‘From Here We Changed the World‘.
