The first item is of the new Sikorsky S92 based at Stornoway. The current contract provides for commercial search and rescue helicopter services from four civilian-operated bases - Sumburgh, Stornoway, Lee-on-Solent and Portland - for a five-year period from July 1, 2007. The service provides 24-hour coverage at Sumburgh, Stornoway and Lee-on-Solent, and operates on a 12 hour day-time basis at Portland. The Sikorsky (S92) is based at Stornoway in the Western Isles of Scotland and at Sumburgh on the Shetland Islands. In addition, Agusta Westland139s (AW139) are based at Lee-on-Solent and at Portland. The second item in the MCA News Podcast comes from the South Coast, with Hugh Kirby of ITV Meridian flying with the new, smaller AW139 helicopters based at Portland and the Solent. A man is rescued from cliffs in Dorset and flown to hospital in Poole. Finally in this edition a piece produced by the MCA to encourage the wearing of lifejackets. Mariners who wear lifejackets have an excellent 70% chance of survival, in the event of ending up in the water.
