Food in Action, a novel approach
Obesity and overweight are chronic conditions influenced by a multitude of factors. They are the result of energy imbalance over a long period of time. Individual behaviours, environmental factors, and genetics all contribute to the complexity of the obesity epidemic. However, individual behaviour and the environment are the greatest areas for prevention and treatment.

Novel approaches: helping individuals to help themselves?

Dympna is a Registered Dietitian with extensive experience of working in different clinical settings and providing training for healthcare professionals.

Her particular interests are lifestyle change in relation to diabetes, coronary heart disease and weight management.

Dympna now works full time delivering behaviour change skills training to healthcare professionals. This training has been developed over the past 10 years working with experts in the field and has been adapted to meet the needs of healthcare professionals working in the modern NHS. This training is geared towards brief interventions and focuses on the development of interpersonal skills as well as the more advanced motivational and cognitive behavioural approaches.
