If you are looking to make your training as effective as possible one way to enhance it is use video. It is very flexible and can be used in a classroom situation to help explain or illustrate points the trainer is making. It can even be used as a self-contained training tool. When added to an eLearning platform the video can be connected to formal self- tests and other online resources. Video training can also be delivered by DVDs where online access is not practical or cost effective.
We worked with Walport Maritime Training (now known as KVH-TRAININGLink) for a number of years. During that time we have produced many training films for them which they resell to their customers across Europe and Internationally. They commissioned us to produce a video focusing on ‘Successful Bridge Team Management’. At the heart of any safe movement of ships into and out of harbour is the teamwork between a ships Captain, the crew and the harbour pilot.
Our brief was to create a training video that would be sold by Walport to train ships crew on all the important elements of bridge teamwork. We worked with Walport to develop the script and then the shot list. We also had to select the shooting locations. We worked closely with Associate British Ports and their team at Southampton to ensure we could work closely with the Pilots, interview them and then film them boarding a ship and in action on the bridge.
