Video is a great tool to promote any type of event – internal (for employees) or external (for the public). Video can be used to showcase what the event was like and create interest in the next one. Video interviews of people speaking about the preparation can be used to help promote the event in the months before. The interviews could be with members of the senior management team if it is an event aimed at employees, or the presenters and participants at a public event.
The organisers of the FlyToThePast airshows approached us to help them promote the event which was moving to Oxford Airport for the first time. The nature of the show would be changing. At the previous events held at Blenheim Palace, only helicopters could land so it was in effect a ‘fly past’ of aircraft with ground based entertainment. Using Oxford Airport opened many new opportunities for visitors to see the aircraft up close and talk to the owners and pilots. They wanted us to highlight the new location and the benefits that would bring to visitors.
As the pilots and aircraft would be a major attraction we interviewed a number of them and organisers in the months before the show. As these people were based all over the world we interviewed them over the phone and released them as audio podcasts. We actively used our social media accounts to help promote this content.
From the footage obtained on the day of the show we created a promotional video and also produced a series of one-on-one video interviews. We also created a special web landing site matching their main site branding and hosted the content.
The result was that they had their best ever event with over 10,000 people visitors.
