While the origin of the idiom ‘a picture is worth a thousand words‘ maybe a little uncertain the idea behind it is not. Research has shown video has a positive impact on communicating information effectively as well as increasing audience interaction and understanding. We work with many organisations to leverage the power of videos to ensure their message gets across.
We have worked with the MCA for many years on a variety of projects. We have provided an interface to UK and global news organisations and media production companies wanting access to footage. We have also produced public service safety and information videos and helped promote their commercial services such as Red Ensign. We have provided video coverage of special events involving Royalty, Government Ministers, and special guests. We have also produced many educational and promotional materials to support the MCAs presence at trade shows and maritime events around the world.
One of the projects we were asked to help them with was to increase public awareness of their ongoing work and also help deliver specific safety information to the public. We decided that rather than produce a printed newsletter we would create a monthly video newsletter. Each edition would include a variety of stories including news from coastguard stations, reports on specific safety topics such as the importance of wearing life jackets at all times and the risks associated with ‘tombstoning’. The video newsletter was well received by the public and others in the maritime industry and gained many thousands of monthly views.
Although produced a number of years ago the editions of the video newsletter still attract regular viewers which shows the staying power of video when used as an archive tool especially when using YouTube.
