Annual Report 2009
2009 has been a year of major changes for the Trust, especially in management and financial accountability and solid achievement on the ground in Uganda.
To match the widening outreach of our work we have re-structured the management. Johnson Waibi, our Country Manager, has been liberated from ‘nuts and bolts’ to general country oversight, looking after relations with partners and government, and startegic planning.
He has a new Country Office which he shares with his deputy and financial overlord, John Boscoe. Each project area has its own Project Manager and Financial Officer and its own technical and hygiene team – in Mpigi, in Jinja, in Luwero, in Masindi and in Bulisa/Hoima. They are responsible for achieving the local outputs of clean water, sanitation and good hygiene, in accordance with the Busoga Trust ‘brand’ in their project area.
Also, new financial accountancy packages, all computerised and linked to London were introduced from 1st April to make sense of the increased activity. The Trust has also appointed a new part time Trustee/Treasurer here in the UK as our Chief Financial Officer.
Despite the constraints in the financial environment, the Trust has achieved the following outputs:
- 96 Community Water Sources (hand dug wells, boreholes, under and above ground tanks)
- 90 6000 litre Domestic Rainwater Tanks (when no ground water is obtainable)
- 24 Water Jars for vulnerable homes
- 7 Home Improvement Campaigns
- 10 School Pit latrines
- 1 Ecosan Latrine
- 4 Rehabilitations of failed wells
- Constant health and hygeine education
- Regular local broadcasts on health and hygeine
