There is a big rise in audiobook popularity. Studies have shown that your brain does not differentiate between reading a book and listening to it and gets the same goodness out of both.
Insights into Liberating Leadership by Ali Stewart was first published in 2015 and has sold over 1500 copies and achieved Amazon #1 in 2 categories. In 2017 Wiltshire Police bought 415 books and the Chief Constable or one of his senior team wrote a personal message in every book for all the officers they are putting through a 2-day version of the programme.
As a novice to vocal recording, Adam came in for a practice session for him to get used to the slight feeling of claustrophobia in the soundproof booth and to improve the relationship with the audio engineer. This relationship is often so key to how well a recording session goes. The person in the booth is so dependant on the engineer they hear in their headphones to give cues, encouragement and clear communication from the producer listening on the outside.
After this session we agreed with Adam to work on a schedule of no more than two, two-hour, sessions per week. This would ensure his voice did not deteriorate too much over the course of the session and it would have time to rest between sessions. The strain on a person’s voice is a real concern and must be monitored during every session.
Over the recording sessions, Adam worked through the Insights into Liberating Leadership book and we’ll be writing a new blog about the editing process.
